Penile Implant/Prosthesis
When all conservative measures in the treatment of erectile dysfunction have failed, a penile prosthesis or penile implant can be placed. The device is completely contained within the body, and no part is visable to the eye.
The surgery involves the placement of a three-piece inflatable penile prosthesis and is performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. Patients stay overnight in the hospital. The success rate is excellent (>90%) with regard to patient satisfaction.
Dr. Boyle prefers placement of the AMS 3 piece inflatable prosthesis.

Penile Prosthesis Post-Operative Instructions
Please review the instructions below to assist in your recovery from your penile prosthesis - these are general guidelines

Do not let the water directly contact the incision. Pat the area dry – do not rub the incision. Do not submerge in water (bath, pool, swimming) until after two weeks.

Take the following medications as prescribed:-Tylox one tablet by mouth every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. Otherwise, take Tylenol for pain.

This is so the scrotum heals with the pump located in the most dependent (lowest) position within the scrotum.

Do not attempt to inflate or deflate the prosthesis. At your 6 week postop visit Dr. Boyle will teach you to begin cycling (inflating and deflating) your prosthesis.
