Female Sex Reassignment Surgery: Our Approach to Vaginoplasty

April 18, 2016

Many patients who undergo male to female sex reassignment surgery for gender identity disorder will require a second procedure to address the construction of aesthetically appropriate labia minora.

My goal, together with my surgical partner Dr. Rachel Bluebond-Langner, is to provide a superior postoperative result with only surgery.

Revisions are sometimes necessary, yes, but we have shown that you can construct a wonderful clitoris, with nice clitoral hood coverage and labia minora at the time of primary vaginoplasty.

The goal is normal clitoral and vulvar sensation, with superior aesthetic result, a nice patent vagina with excellent vaginal depth. We are so pleased to have accomplished these goals in our patients, and feel that our surgical collaboration and approach to the care of our patients provides excellent outcomes and patient experience.
